Fresh from the Studio invites W&TW artist members to share what they are working on now. In this virtual format, artists share work in progress, newly finished artworks, and recent or upcoming projects. Each presentation is about 10 minutes with time for your questions and comments afterwards. Fresh from the Studio is your chance to see what is new and hear from contemporary artists. This program is free and open to the public.

This segment of Fresh from the Studio will feature Annie Arnold, Ginger Geyer and Ariana Gomez.

About the Artists

Annie Arnold is a visual artist bemused by the social and cultural phenomena of narcissism.  Favoring iterative craft techniques, such as needlepoint and crochet, she makes art both as a distraction from and a reference to social media.  Her work explores our attempts to offset the shame of being ordinary and highlights the staggering amounts of time we dedicate to thinking and talking about ourselves.  She earned her BA in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin, and her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas, College of Art and Design, Denton, TX. Arnold has participated in exhibitions at The Contemporary Austin, Austin,TX; New American Paintings, exhibition-in-print; grayDUCK Gallery, Austin; the Visual Arts Center, Austin, TX; and the Salina Arts Center, Salina, KS; among others.

Ginger Geyer is known for her quixotic porcelains, detailed hand built sculptures that explore art history, vintage culture and theology. These are often accompanied by poignant and humorous stories on her website. Recently she has developed a related body of work in collage murals made from children’s books and wallpaper, exploring a lifelong interest in words connected to imagery. Geyer grew up in Arkansas and has been an Austin resident since 1988. She earned BFA and MFA degrees from SMU and a Masters in Pastoral Ministry at the Seminary of the Southwest. She has taught there and is presently Artist-in-Residence. Her previous careers have been in art museum planning and collections management, and in art programming for a retreat center. She has an extensive record of exhibitions, publications, and speaking engagements. Valley House Gallery of Dallas represents her work.

Ariana Gomez is a visual artist working between image and text. Originally from Austin, Texas, she has spent the last 12 years in New York City working commercially. Recently she returned home to pursue a graduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin. This transition has become a catalyst for her most recent ruminations on the concepts of home, family, and identity. Ariana was honored to be mentioned in Glass Tire’s Best of 2022 as a photographer to watch and has exhibited in group shows both in the US and internationally, most recently showing at the McLennon Pen Co gallery in Austin, TX as well as showing a selection of works from her series ‘Sunset Park’ at sTudio 7 in Fort Tilden for the Rockaway Artists’ Alliance. Currently she is exploring the idea of ‘home as myth’ through reflections on her parent’s relationship to land.
