Born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA, Carol Tippit Woolworth studied painting at UC Santa Barbara under Irma Cava, and graduated with a BA in Art with an emphasis in painting. In 1983, she moved to NYC and worked as a graphic designer, later creating Tippit Woolworth Design with her husband, while maintaining an art studio practice. Recently she has been working in Papier Mache and assemblage.

Artists who have influenced Woolworths’s work over the past few years are the French painter Nicolas de Staël, and the Bay Area artists David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bischoff and Henry Jackson. These artists work to pare down detail, and create dialogs using the least amount of information in order to express a specific truth through color and shapes.Woolworths’s painting journey has been to find these primal, universal truths through layers, scrapes, scumbles using oils, oil sticks, and cold wax on linen, board, and gouache.

Her work has been shown at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover DE; Roger La Pelle Galleries, Philadelphia PA; AeriaArt Gallery, Rehoboth Beach DE; Mezzanine Gallery, Wilmington DE; Hardcastle Galleries, Centreville DE; The Philadelphia Sketch Club, Philadelphia PA; Gallery 919, Wilminton DE; Carspecken- Scott Gallery, Wilmington DE; Blue Streak Gallery, Wilmington DE; Gallery One, Chadds Ford PA, among others. In 2016, Carol curated an exhibit at the Delaware Art Museum, Inside Out. Her paintings are in various collections throughout Europe (Paris, Geneva, Germany, UK) the United States (NYC, La Jolla CA, Santa Fe NM, Santa Barbara CA, Key West FL, Wilmington DE; Chadds Ford PA, among others) and Mexico. She has been a featured artist in Visual Magazine, American Art Collector Magazine, and Southwest Art, and has advertised in American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, and Southwest Art Magazines.

Woolworth taught at the Delaware College of Art and Design in both design and painting, and with a variety of private painting students over the last couple of decades.
