Women & Their Work is an art organization that serves as a catalyst for contemporary art created by women living and working in Texas and beyond. Volunteers and interns play an essential role in making our gallery a welcoming and vibrant space for all.

Fall Internships

Details

Internship dates: late August/ early September – December 2022

Flexible schedule: approximately 10 hours per week; all positions will be primarily working in person with some flexibility for remote work.

Attendance required at events

Availability to work one Saturday per month 

All interns are expected to perform general administration duties in an efficient & timely manner: answering phones, responding to visitor inquiries, passing along messages, basic data entry

Opportunity for position to continue through fall.

Positions are open until filled.

Evaluation

Intern will work with the Program Director to create project timelines and receive training. The intern will meet weekly with staff and give updates on progress and discuss any issues or training needs. Staff will review work prior to meetings and provide feedback.

Programs

The Programs Intern will assist with the following:

  • planning and implementation of programs (virtual & in person)
  • development of exhibition materials such as gallery guides, in-gallery displays and interactive materials for a variety of audiences.
  • social media programming updates & posts
  • development, implementation, and promotion of our membership programs
  • planning and coordination of membership programs and events
  • processing memberships and assist with database management
  • assembling membership materials and acknowledgements
  • making website updates
  • supporting on and off-site activity and perform administrative work related to public programs
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Ability to work individually and as a team
    • Proficient in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Events

The Events Intern will assist with the fall fundraiser, public events, membership events & exhibition openings:

  • planning and coordination of our fall fundraising event, Red Dot Art Spree
  • logistics of public events, membership events & exhibition openings
  • recruiting volunteers for events
  • making website updates
  • coordinating digital communications including press releases, invitations and marketing efforts
  • researching and developing strategies to increase sponsors and ticket sales
  • processing sponsorships and ticket sales and assist with database management
Skills Needed
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Proficiency in iOS and Mac processing
    • Proficient in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Operations

The Operations intern will assist with gallery operations, including caretaking of exhibitions, upkeep of prep area and courtyard, and administrative duties.

  • Help to maintain the cleanliness of the gallery, back house offices, and surrounding grounds.
  • Maintain an inventory of office and gallery supplies and place orders to restock as needed.
  • Organize and maintain the prep room and back office spaces.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and filing of financial documents
  • Perform general administration including basic data entry
  • Set up for receptions and performances.
  • Assist the Gallery Director, Preparator, and exhibiting artists with installation/deinstall of exhibitions.
  • Perform exhibitions-related research where needed.
Skills Needed
    • Must be highly organized
    • Proficient with spreadsheets 
    • Handy: strong familiarity with tools, able to address a wide range of maintenance projects
    • Able to move bulky objects
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Team player

Marketing

The Marketing intern will assist with the following:

  • developing marketing campaigns for exhibitions & events, assist with updates & posts
  • creating newsletter content and email marketing campaigns
  • providing support to online, social media efforts to target new audiences
  • making website updates to reflect current exhibitions & programs
  • creating and distributing of promotional materials (videos, flyers, brochures)
  • updating and maintaining press archives
  • serving as Gallery Attendant providing visitor services, as needed
  • Attend and assist with opening receptions, public programs and other W&TW events
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Good organizational, research, planning and production skills
    • Proficient in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred

Education & Interpretation

The Education intern will assist with the following:

  • planning and implementation of education & select public programs (virtual & in person)
  • researching and developing educational materials and curriculum for virtual and in person tours.
  • developing, implementing, and evaluating interpretive materials of exhibitions which may include developing gallery guides, in-gallery displays and interactive materials for a variety of audiences.
  • leading student tours 
  • supporting on and off-site activity and perform administrative work related to education & public programs
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Ability to work individually and as a team

Archive

The Archive intern will assist with the following:

  • scanning and digitizing archive materials
  • organizing physical and digital archive materials
  • researching artists for archive spotlights and social media campaigns
  • writing and editing copy for archival web pages
  • making website updates
  • preparing files for Smithsonian archive acquisition
Skills Needed
    • Excellent organization skills
    • Strong attention to detail 
    • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop
    • Strong writing skills
