Fresh from the Studio is a virtual program for W&TW artist members to share what they are working on now. During 10 minute presentations, each artist will present work in progress, newly finished artworks, recent or upcoming projects. Fresh from the Studio is your chance to see what is new and hear from contemporary artists. This program is free and open to the public.

In this edition of Fresh from the Studio, we will hear from artists Angel Faz, Cheryl Finfrock, Anna Fritzel, and Alicia Philley.

About the Artists

Angel Faz is a multi-disciplinary artist focusing on creating community. A printmaker for over twenty years, Faz co-founded Nopalistxs in 2020 to fill the public streets with images and words to support emotional and mental health, share resources, and inspire people to dream of more than just the future. Faz holds a BA in Visual Communications from Collins College in Tempe, Arizona. Their handcarved print Collective Care was recently acquired by the Library of Congress.

Cheryl Finfrock is a native Texan from Dallas, a San Francisco transplant, and an Austinite. A Trinity University graduate in both art and literature, she explores the figure in its awkwardness, anonymity, and universality, creating a narrative steeped in the tradition of Texas storytelling. She has exhibited in Berlin, Paris, Sofia, Olmouc, Copenhagen, NYC, and San Francisco and is represented by Ro2Art in Dallas.

Anna Fritzel is a photography based multi-media artist who lives in Plano, Texas. Fritzel is a PhD candidate in Aesthetic Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and holds a BS in Photography as well as an MS in Art from Texas A&M Commerce. She has also studied photographic alternative processes at the Maine Media and Photographic Workshops. She is a member of the Society for Photographic Education as well as the Texas Photographic Society. Fritzel’s current work addresses perceptions of and restraints on women in the 21st century world, still dominated by patriarchal institutions, particularly mass media and its messaging.

Alicia Philley has lived and worked in Austin for more than a decade. She completed the BFA program in painting at Hunter College, NYC, in 2005 and also earned a BA in journalism, 1995, from Southern Methodist University. She is a founding member of the artist group IngrainedATX, is a member of New York Artists Equity Association and works out of Mothership Studios in San Marcos. Her paintings and collages are part of corporate collections in New York, Texas, North Carolina and Germany, as well as private collections in Texas, New York, California, New Jersey, Kansas, Minnesota, Canada and Spain. Philley is currently creating a series of sculptural paintings that will debut in October, 2022 at the LadyBird Johnson Wildflower Center.
