21st Century Color

Join artist and color theorist Luanne Stovall for a deep dive into the art, psychology, and science of 21st Century Color. For centuries we’ve been taught the same rules about the Red/Yellow/Blue color wheel. About the lecturer

Luanne Stovall is an artist, color theorist, and lecturer at the University of Texas. Her paintings and works on paper have been exhibited widely in museums and galleries and are in private and public collections, including the Art Museum of South Texas; El Paso Museum of Art; Blanton Museum, Austin, TX; Moakley Cancer Care Center, Boston; Neiman Marcus Signature Store, Boston; and the Estee Lauder Collection. A champion of “art for daily life,” Ms. Stovall approaches color as a core aspect of perception and meaning deeply woven into everything we do. She believes color literacy can sharpen our senses, expand our awareness, and enhance our ability to communicate.

Stovall has taught color workshops and courses at the University of Texas, Austin; The Contemporary Austin; the American Institute of Architects (AIA); School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Wellesley College, MA; and MIT’s Sloan School of Business. She is a Board Director of the Inter-Society Color Council and a member of the steering team of the global Color Literacy Project.

Born in Cleveland Ohio, Stovall attended Miami University, Ohio; New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, Sculpture in New York City, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. She received an MFA in painting from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Art, Boston.
