A Tribute to Black Women Artists

The event honored Mrs. Ada Simond with the first annual Mattie B. White Award. Co-sponsored with Black Arts Alliance Project. The Tribute culminated a week of celebration, and featured fourteen black performers.

Ada Simond, an Austin writer, historian and educator, helped the black community in Travis and 27 other Texas counties for more than four decades through her work in health education, and her writings have preserved their heritage.
