Doña Rosita’s Jalapeño Kitchen-1997
Women & Their Work and La Peña proudly presented Ruby Nelda Perez in Doña Rosita’s Jalapeño Kitchen in a command return engagement. In the town of Salsipuedes (“get-out-if-you-can”), Doña Rosita invites you to the last supper as she gets ready to vacate her little restaurant and home. Forced out to make room for the new shopping mall, Rosita reflects on life in the Barrio and beyond. A gifted comedienne and captivating storyteller, Ruby Nelda Perez brought the one woman play by Rodrigo Duarte Clark to hilarious life.
Perez has toured throughout the U.S. and Latin America; she has received several awards including Best Actress at the Chamizal International Theater Festival. Based in San Antonio, Perez opened up a whole new world to the majority of Austin theatergoers. This was an amazing opportunity to see this spell-binding bilingual performance.
