Fresh from the Studio invites W&TW artist members to share what they are working on now. In this virtual format, artists share work in progress, newly finished artworks, and recent or upcoming projects. Each presentation is about 10 minutes with time for your questions and comments afterwards. Fresh from the Studio is your chance to see what is new and hear from contemporary artists. This program is free and open to the public.

This segment of Fresh from the Studio will feature McKenzie Drake, Norah Levine and Jacqueline Overby.

About the Artists

McKenzie Drake is a painter working in Austin, TX, while pursuing her MFA in studio art at the University of Texas at Austin.  She previously studied at the University College London’s Slade School of Fine Art and Rhodes College. Her work has been exhibited in arts venues across the Southeast and is featured in the Rhodes College permanent collection. Most recently, she exhibited her first solo show, Less | Earth | Bound at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.

Norah Levine is a fine artist living in Austin, Texas. Levine utilizes her bachelor’s degree in photography and 15 + years of experience as a professional portrait photographer to inform many of her pieces, which often include original photographic elements. Levine’s artwork has been privately collected and commissioned throughout the country. Her work has sold in galleries and retail locations throughout Austin, TX and in Santa Fe, NM at Convergence Gallery. Two of Levine’s encaustic art pieces were featured in HGTV’s Smart Home. Levine has a commitment to animal welfare which can be seen in her philanthropic initiative: Lifelines Project and published a book based on her years as an animal portrait photographer and educator, Pet Photography.

Jacqueline Overby earned her BFA from Texas State University in 2016. A multi-disciplinary artist, Overby began as an oil painter and has since moved towards more performative and sculptural efforts, most recently delving into the social practice realm. Overby currently lives and works in Austin and San Marcos, TX. In 2020, Overby founded MotherShip Studios with business partner Courtney Peterson and has since focused on developing the community and constructing studios in the space located in San Marcos, Texas. Most recently the pair have begun another initiative called Blast Suppers, hosted at a different location every month. An evolving effort, the monthly potluck aims to provide a community gathering point where the Austin creative community can come together and rebuild the networks of support that we have lost throughout the pandemic.
