Fresh from the Studio invites W&TW artist members to share what they are working on now. In this virtual format, artists share work in progress, newly finished artworks, and recent or upcoming projects. Each presentation is about 10 minutes with time for your questions and comments afterwards. Fresh from the Studio is your chance to see what is new and hear from contemporary artists. This program is free and open to the public.

This segment of Fresh from the Studio will feature Breck Baig, Sara Drescher, and Nell Langford.

About the Artists

Breck Baig was born and raised in the Vail Valley of Colorado and currently resides in Austin, Texas.  She makes ceramic sculptures, paintings, and mixed media artworks. Through each painting, Baig seeks to create an image that is at once fanciful and imaginative while containing the comfort of her own backyard. Rather, the idealized version of that backyard from her vivid childhood in Western Colorado among the Rockies, evergreens, and red canyons. Baig’s abstract work incorporates distorted perspectives, using unique spatial organizations that push and pull the viewer through the canvas. Her creative process allows for spontaneous gestures to evolve into cohesive ideas, inviting the viewer to make sense of quick gestural brush strokes and intuitive use of color. Baig’s work is deeply influenced by material with her practice encompassing both ceramic sculpture and painting. These two mediums inform the other constantly. Form comes first and the material follows as a way to meditate through creation in a tactile and very physical way. Mediums are accepted for what they are, accepting the material realities of paint or ceramic and its limitations. Her work has been described as “ecstatic nature” and Baig finds that to be the most apt description available through language.

Sara Drescher, a Texas based painter, creates hyper realistic watercolors of ordinary objects with a hidden story. Currently her work centers on issues regarding double standards and other obstacles that women face today, as well as issues surrounding sustainability in the environment. Drescher earned her Master of Fine Arts degree at Texas Tech University and her Bachelor Fine Arts degree at the University of North Texas. She has more than 20 years of experience as a professional artist and more than 10 years of experience leading popular workshops and ongoing art classes for adults. Drescher had a solo exhibition in San Angelo, TX in 2023. In 2021, she had a solo exhibit at the Museum of the Southwest titled, Reclaiming the Casserole. This exhibition was reviewed in Glasstire, Texas Visual Art News and Reviews, August 31, 2021. This was her second solo exhibition at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, TX, and she has also had a solo exhibition at the CASE Gallery in Ft. Morgan, CO. Her work has been recognized in numerous juried art shows around the United States, and she has been the artist in residence at the Museum of the Southwest Children’s Museum, the Midland County Centennial Library, and at Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, CO. When not in the studio, she enjoys scouring flea markets and thrift stores for unusual finds which often appear in her paintings.
