Functioning in the Art World Workshop

Women & Their Work presented “Functioning in the Art World,” an afternoon workshop for visual artists who are wondering how to get exhibition opportunities. This was held on September 24, Saturday, at the Elizabet Ney Museum.

Guest artists from around Texas spoke from their own experience in developing exhibition spaces and opportunities. Speakers emphasized their work with artists’ co-ops and artist-owned galleries in Texas.

Speakers included Karen McGraw, Austin architect, a founding member of Designer Spaces, and member of the City’s Downtown Development Taskforce; and Lynn McLanahan, Director of the Houston Center for Photography, an artist-run gallery, workshop and teaching facility in Houston.

This workshop was presented in response to the needs of many visual artists, who had approached Women & Their Work seeking opportunities to exhibit their work and receive critical attention.
