Lydia Mendoza in Concert

Women & Their Work presented Lydia Mendoza in concert at the Dougherty Cultural Arts Center. Mendoza, one of the major forces in the traditional music of the Rio Grande Valley, was the recipient of the 1982 National Heritage Award for Traditional Arts.

Mendoza’s music reflects a wide range of sources–old Spanish and Mexican ballads, boleros, rancheras, and many regional “corridos.”
