Born and raised in Europe, Rosa Nussbaum is informed by her recent years in Texas. Unable to drive and finding herself as a passenger in a car, Nussbaum reflects upon this dependent and passive relationship. The exhibition is structured as a kind of theme park, using sculpture, performance, video, and a slideshow to explore how the car becomes a lens that focuses and reshapes the world around her. Like one big refracted eye, the vast expanse of the windshield frames her vision as she is surrounded yet disconnected in this membrane of metal.
About the Artist
Rosa Nussbaum (Freiburg, Germany, 1991) is a visual artist based in Austin, Texas. She received her MFA in Studio Art: Transmedia from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018 and her BFA from Wimbledon College of Arts, London, UK in 2014. Nussbaum works at the intersection of performance and sculpture with an emphasis on interactivity and technology. Her work explores the place where the (female) body touches the institution. She has exhibited internationally including a commission for Glasgow International 2018, Glasgow, Scotland; Affordable Dreamhouse at the Visual Arts Center Austin, TX; Worldhack Installed at Babycastles Gallery, NYC, NY.

Nacida y criada en Europa, Rosa Nussbaum se basa en sus últimos años en Texas. Incapaz de conducir y como pasajera de un coche, Nussbaum reflexiona sobre esta relación dependiente y pasiva. La exposición está estructurada como una especie de parque temático, utilizando esculturas, actuación, videos y presentaciones de diapositivas para explorar cómo el automóvil se convierte en una lente que enfoca y remodela el mundo que lo rodea. Como un gran ojo refractado, la vasta extensión del parabrisas enmarca su visión mientras está rodeada pero desconectada en esta membrana de metal.
Sobre La Artista
Rosa Nussbaum (Friburgo, Alemania, 1991) es artista visual radicada en Austin, Texas. Recibió su Maestría en Arte de Estudio: Transmedia de la Universidad de Texas en Austin en 2018 y su Licenciatura en Bellas Artes del Wimbledon Colegio de Artes, Londres, Reino Unido, en 2014. Nussbaum trabaja en la intersección de la actuación y la escultura con énfasis en la interactividad y la tecnología. Su trabajo explora el lugar donde el cuerpo (femenino) toca la institución.
