Artist Statement

Contextualizing the Koran in an art exhibition entitled Fictions gives me the opportunity to use it in my work without treating it as a privileged text. The device of placing each piece in this show in a separate fiction allows the objects, which are culturally loaded, to work for me with great efficiency in the way books within books work for the Argentine writer, Jorge Luis Borges. It is important that the text is face down on its lectern, and that it is removed from reality and distanced from the viewer by the wax.
