This exhibit presents a view of our postmodern culture created by 10 recognized Texas women artists. These women are some of the more established producers of our visual culture. Although their work is diverse they are united by their differences and long standing commitment to the visual arts of our time. Their rich variety of artistic style and cultural diversity are their assets. The exhibition is based on a cross-section of remarkable women artists that reflects the multicultural, geographic diversity which we have in Texas.
These artist’s works vary in technique, scale, content, meaning and purpose. They represent a sample of women and their work in the visual arts who are either at mid-career or at their apex. They are some of the best Texas artists and have created challenging and exciting work that can rival art created anywhere today. While most have had exhibitions here in Texas, some of them have gained national reputations and a few have achieved international recognition.
The two works selected from each artist for this exhibit are from different periods in their careers: a early work and a recent creation. By showing a few passages in the artist’s oeuvre, this exhibit offers the viewer the opportunity to see how these recognized artists have developed, refined, modified, repeated or changed their vision in the past decade.
