Yuni Lee

Yuni Lee creates dimensional paintings richly imbued with nostalgia, blending references to her birthplace of Seoul, South Korea and American culture. In Techstalgia: Echoes from a Small Screen, Lee constructs large scale, abstract paintings using layers of texture and pattern. She collages traditional Korean fabrics and recycled materials with traditional mediums to create dynamic forms that reference and fuse nature with technology. Inspired by organic forms such as flowers, trees, and animals, Lee interweaves these forms with hard geometric shapes that reference the stark structures and technologies of the 21st century. Neon accents the surface of her luminous paintings, furthering the overlapping relationship between the natural and human-made world. In exploring these ideas, Lee is interested in how the two can–and should–coexist.

About the Artist

Yuni Lee is a mixed media artist whose diverse practice incorporates vibrant colors and collective patterns to create a dimensional harmony between nature and human-made elements. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Performance, and holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas. Committed to creating art that explores expression, power, and community, her work features bright color-scapes where the materials of large-scale feats intertwine with subtle forms and palettes reminiscent of Korea. She adeptly blends color patterns and materials to represent different cultures and aspects of nature and technology. Lee is also recognized for her grand-scale paintings and installations often including recycled elements from both contemporary and traditional visual cultures. 

She has participated in numerous group and collaborative exhibitions, including the Dallas Art Fair. Aspen Art Fair, Fort Worth Community Art Center, and the Greater Denton Arts Council. Currently, she serves as a Lead Faculty professor in the Foundations Program at the University of North Texas. Her work is represented by Ro2 Art Gallery in Dallas. She is a recipient of the Community Canvas Initiative awarded by Coca Cola Southwest Beverages. She resides in Dallas, Texas.

En Tecstalgia: Ecos de una Pantalla Pequeña (Techstalgia: Echoes from a Small Screen) Lee construye pinturas abstractas a gran escala utilizando capas de texturas y patrones. Ella combina telas tradicionales coreanas y materiales reciclados con medios tradicionales para crear formas dinámicas que hacen referencia y fusionan la naturaleza con la tecnología. Sobre la Artista

Yuni Lee es una artista de medio mixtos cuya diversa práctica incorpora colores vibrantes y patrones colectivos para crear una armonía dimensional entre la naturaleza y los elementos creados por el hombre. Se graduó de la Universidad de Texas en Dallas con una licenciatura en Artes y Performance y tiene una Maestría en Bellas Artes en Pintura y Dibujo de la Universidad del Norte de Texas. Comprometida con la creación de arte que explore la expresión, el poder y la comunidad, su trabajo presenta paisajes de colores brillantes donde los materiales de hazañas a gran escala se entrelazan con formas y paletas sutiles que recuerdan a Corea. Combina hábilmente patrones de color y materiales para representar diferentes culturas y aspectos de la naturaleza y la tecnología. Lee también es reconocida por sus pinturas e instalaciones a gran escala que a menudo incluyen elementos reciclados de culturas visuales tanto contemporáneas como tradicionales.
