April Garcia (b. 1978 in San Benito, TX) is an artist living in Austin, Texas. April’s greatest passion is creating soft sculpture art and sharing her love of soft sculpture with her community. Using fabric, fiber-fill, needle, and thread, she sews her fabric pieces by hand or with a sewing machine. The colorful fabric shapes she creates are often attached one to another creating bulging colorful soft sculptures, balanced with color and pattern. While creating in her studio, she enjoys allowing her soft sculptures to grow organically, giving her soft sculptures space to morph into what they want to be. Her soft sculpture work has an organic abstract look that resembles shapes found in nature or even something that you might find growing on another planet. April has been creating and exhibiting her art in Austin for twenty years and has several artworks in the permanent collection of the Mexic Arte Museum.
