Elizabeth Chiles is an American artist based in Austin whose work explores the intersection of physical and personal worlds through photographs, collage, natural pigment painting and writing. Elizabeth pushes the boundaries of photography and its possibilities, making intangible concepts—including time, perception and consciousness—visible to viewers. Her process results in artworks that embrace the wonders of existence and reveal nature’s persistent beauty.
Born in Austin and raised in Houston, Texas, Elizabeth graduated with a B.A. in Art History from Columbia University and an M.F.A. in Photography from San Francisco Art Institute. Elizabeth taught theory and photography at UT Austin, Texas State and Southwestern University for 6 years. Her work has been widely exhibited, including in the critically acclaimed exhibition Over Time (2016), which was nominated for Best Solo Show in Austin, and Weave (2018), a solo exhibition that earned her a nomination for the Best Artist of 2018 by the Austin Critics Table. Her work is held in public and private collections across the United States, including those of Dell Children’s Hospital, Dimensional Worldwide, Google, Sidley Austin and The Line Hotel, among others.
