Susan Appleton

After a long career as an architect Susan Appleton discovered her love of painting portraits. Her art education began with a BA in Art History from Smith
College in Massachusetts. She is primarily self-taught in painting but her training has included informal classes and workshops at The Contemporary Art School in Austin, Texas. She worked in oils for several years, beginning in 2018. In 2023 she was introduced to the joy of working in watercolor.

Appleton has shown oil portraits in the Ardest Gallery in The Woodlands, Texas. In the winter of 2025 she was chosen to participate in the Chateau
Orquevaux Artist Residency in Orquevaux, France, where she painted portraits in watercolor and one of these is in the permanent collection of the Gallery Diderot in Orquevaux.
