About Our Gallery

Is there an admission fee?
No, admission is always free! We do welcome donations, which can be made by cash or card.
How long has Women & Their Work been around and what do you do?
2018 was our 40th anniversary year! We were founded on 1978 and have been at our Lavaca Street location since 1995.
Women & Their Work is a contemporary arts organization that exhibits and promotes the work of women artists from Texas and beyond by fostering and exhibiting adventurous work in multiple disciplines.

What kind of art/artists does W&TW show?
We primarily show contemporary artwork by women artist living and working in Texas. We strive to show innovative, rigorous work and present a diversity of mediums, aesthetics and viewpoints.

Does W&TW rent its facilities for private events?
We typically do not rent our gallery as an event venue. Our gallery layout changes every 6 weeks for art exhibitions that use the space in unpredictable ways. Because we can’t guarantee the safety of the artwork, or that there will be room for an event, we unfortunately cannot offer our space as a venue.

Are there job, internship, or volunteer opportunities?
Currently we are not hiring for any paid positions. We do offer a number of internships and volunteer opportunities.

Getting Here

Can I use public transit to get to W&TW?
Yes! Women & Their Work is easy to get to by a number of bus lines. We are a half block from the Museum Station bus stop which services MetroRapid lines 801 and 803, and one block from the Lavaca/17th and Guadalupe/16th (southbound) bus stops which service MetroBus local lines 1 ,3, 18, 19, 20, 105, UT shuttle 663, and the 481 night owl, plus MetroExpress commuter lines 980, 981, 982, 987, and 990.

Is parking available?
Metered street parking is available on the surrounding streets. Please be observant of all parking signage when choosing to park on the streets. There is a small lot behind the gallery marked for Women & Their Work, where parking is available first come, first serve.


Exhibits & Events

Am I permitted to take pictures or video?
Yes! We welcome visitors to take photos or videos of the art.

How often does the exhibition change?
Each exhibition us up for about 6 weeks. We show 7 solo artist throughout the year and in the fall we have a 2-week fundraiser exhibition, Red Dot, that features artwork by over 100 artists.

What materials does W&TW provide about the art?
For each exhibition we provide an exhibition guide, information about the artist, a brief video of the artist describing her work (available at a kiosk in the gallery or online), and a postcard with a synopsis of the show.

We also publish comprehensive exhibition catalogs after the run of the exhibition.
Printed exhibition catalogs are available for purchase in the gallery or as a free, downloadable PDF in our online Exhibition Archives.

Can I visit or tour W&TW with a group?
Women & Their Work invites schools, organizations, and other groups of all ages to the gallery for tours and hands-on workshops. Tours typically last one hour, are available Monday-Friday, from 10AM – 6PM, and are limited to 30 participants.

How long does it take to see everything?
Most visitors spend between 10 and 30 minutes in the gallery, because we have so many different artists the time it takes to view a show can vary.

Because every exhibition is unique to the artist, not all can be considered family-friendly.
