Women & Their Work is an art organization that serves as a catalyst for contemporary art created by women living and working in Texas and beyond. Volunteers and interns play an essential role in making our gallery a welcoming and vibrant space for all.

Spring Internships

Details

Internship dates: January – May 2024

Flexible schedule: approximately 10 hours per week; all positions will be primarily working in person with some flexibility for remote work.

Attendance required at events

Availability to work one Saturday per month 

All interns are expected to perform general administration duties in an efficient & timely manner: answering phones, responding to visitor inquiries, passing along messages, basic data entry

Opportunity for position to continue through summer.

Positions are open until filled.

Evaluation

Intern will work with the Program Director to create project timelines and receive training. The intern will meet monthly with staff and give updates on progress and discuss any issues or training needs. Staff will review work prior to meetings and provide feedback.

Spring Internship Descriptions 

Programs

The Programs Intern will assist with the following:

  • Planning and implementation of programs (virtual & in person)
  • Development of exhibition materials such as gallery guides, in-gallery displays and interactive materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Social media programming updates & posts
  • Development, implementation, and promotion of our membership programs  
  • Planning and coordination of membership programs and events
  • Processing memberships and assist with database management
  • Assembling membership materials and acknowledgements
  • Making website updates
  • Supporting on and off-site activity and perform administrative work related to public programs
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Ability to work individually and as a team
    • Proficient in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Gallery Assistant

Assist the Gallery Director with gallery operations, including caretaking of exhibitions, upkeep of prep area, and stock of supplies.

  • Assist the Gallery Director, Preparator, and exhibiting artists with installation/deinstall of exhibitions.
  • Perform exhibitions-related research where needed.
  • Assist with the development of exhibition materials such as gallery guides, in-gallery displays and interactive materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Organize, inventory, and maintain the prep room.
  • Assist with the implementation and promotion of programs and special events.
  • Set up for receptions and performances.
  • May handle routine correspondence with artists and community.
Skills Needed
    • Must be handy with tools 
    • Able to move bulky objects
    • Excellent oral communication skills
    • Team player

Visual Communication and Outreach

The Visual Communication and Outreach intern will assist with the following:

  • Creation and development of designed campaigns and collateral
  • Update and maintain archives
  • Assist with social media programming updates & posts
  • Assist team on website updates 
  • Support on and off-site activity and perform administrative work
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Good analytical, research, planning and organizational skills
    • Proficient in social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, etc.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite preferred

Visitor Services

The Visitor services intern will assist with the following:

  • Provide visitors with detailed & accurate information about W&TW’s exhibitions, history, programs and volunteer opportunities.
  • Perform general administration duties in an efficient & timely manner: answering phones, responding to visitor inquiries, passing along messages, basic data entry
  • Assist with student tours and help create educational materials for exhibitions
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the gallery & surrounding grounds
  • Collect event surveys and/ or audience information at events
  • Research community partners to help build new audiences
  • Provide support during programs & special events
Skills Needed
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
    • Ability to work individually and as a team
