The Metropolitan Museum of Art Acquires Complete Collection of Women & Their Work Publications

It is with great joy that Women & Their Work announces that the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has acquired all of the publications produced and published by Women & Their Work over its 46 year history. The collection which includes physical as well as digital catalogs will be housed on line and at the Met at the Thomas J. Watson Library which is one of the largest art research libraries in the world. Holly Phillips, Senior Collections Manager, Acquisitions, at the Thomas J. Watson Library, writes “We are thrilled to add your publications to our holdings which will provide our researchers with accessibility to a broad range of your gallery’s wonderful catalogs.” The Library’s mission is to support the research activities of the Museum staff and to offer access and outstanding services to an international community of students and scholars.

Women & Their Work has published 160 catalogs including 146 featuring the work of individual artists and 14 catalogs of group exhibitions. Nationally known curators and jurors of these group exhibitions have included Marcia Tucker, founder of the New Museum, Lisa Phillips, then a curator at the Whitney Museum (and now Director of the New Museum); art critic and curator, Lucy Lippard; curator Regine Basha; artist and curator, Kathy Vargas; and artist and curator, Vicki Meek. Publication of the individual catalogs began in 1997 with support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The Smithsonian Archives of American Art acquired the archives of Women & Their Work in 2020.
