Volunteer at Women & Their Work

Women & Their Work is an art organization located in Central Austin that serves as a catalyst for contemporary art created by women living and working in Texas and beyond. Volunteers and interns play an essential role in making our gallery a welcoming and vibrant space for all. There are many ways to get involved!

2019 Spring Internship opportunities:

We are accepting applications for the spring internships. Internship dates: January – May 2019 with the opportunity to continue through summer. Interviews will begin in late December. Positions are open until filled and are unpaid.

Art Bash Assistant
Assist with planning and coordination of our annual fundraising event, Art Bash
Coordinate and assemble mailings for sponsorships and invitations
Organize and keep track of event supplies, décor, swag, etc.
Assist with social media campaign leading up and following event
Update project docs, production schedules, and meeting notes

Photo, Video and Media
Document all current projects/ programs through photography and video
Manage media archives
Create promotional videos
Assist with social media
Make website updates
Light design work including creation of brochures, flyers

Help coordinate youth and adult programs
Help plan education programs in the galleries.
Provide support during public programs and events
Collect event surveys and/ or audience information at events
Help plan and lead education programs in the galleries.
Research community partners and audiences
Support on and off-site activities and perform administrative work related to select education & gallery programs

Visitor Services
Provide visitors with detailed & accurate information about W&TW’s exhibitions, history, programs and volunteer opportunities.
Perform general administration duties in an efficient & timely manner: answering phones, responding to visitor inquiries, passing along messages, basic data entry
Help create educational materials for exhibitions
Help to maintain the cleanliness of the gallery & surrounding grounds
Provide support during programs & special events

Volunteer Opportunities

Visitor Experience Volunteers

Visitor Experience Volunteers welcome visitors to the gallery and offer information about the organization’s history and current exhibition. They also lend a hand in our Gift Shop by assisting customers, ringing up sales, and keeping things looking fresh. Visitor Experience Volunteers work a regular, assigned shift once a week or on alternating weekends for 2-4 hours.

Specific Duties:

  • Greet visitors and orient them to the gallery space, current exhibition, upcoming programs, and membership.

  • Answer questions regarding the history of Women & Their Work, as well as the current exhibition.

  • Ensure that the front desk area is stocked with up-to-date materials.

  • Provide customer service in the Gift Shop by answering questions from shoppers and completing sales transactions.

  • Help keep the Gift Shop looking presentable by restocking items, polishing jewelry, and cleaning displays.

Gallery Operations Volunteers

Gallery Operations Volunteers hold weekday positions and serve one or more aspects of the gallery. Time commitments vary depending on the demands of the particular projects. We offer Internships with a semester-long time commitment from the student.

Events Volunteers

Only free in the evenings? Events Volunteers play an essential role during our art openings, member parties, fundraisers and other gallery events that typically take place in the evening and on weekends. Time commitment and duties varies by event.

Event Volunteer Roles:

  • Set up & take down

  • Front Door Greeter

  • Bartender

  • Photographer/videographer

  • Gift Shop sales

  • General assistance

Most volunteer shifts occur during gallery hours Monday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 12pm-6pm. Volunteers of all genders are welcome!


As a thank you, our volunteers receive a 10% discount in our Gift Shop.
Volunteers who donate 80+ hours in a calendar year receive complimentary Artist or Art Fan membership.
