Body of Resonance I

Sat Apr 20, 2024
12-1pm

Artist Colin McIntyre will present two performances drawing inspiration from Almuelle’s work in her solo exhibition, Circular Body. McIntrye will create an immersive sound environment in the gallery featuring delicately layered sonic tapestries that drift between musical structures and freeform drones. At once emotive and visceral, these meditative soundscapes impart a physical, synesthetic response. These performances are free and open to the public. Pillows and yoga mats welcome for floor seating.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Colin McIntrye is a visual and sound artist with a primary focus on large scale sculpture and public art. He co-founded Dimension Gallery and founded The Resonant Lung.

McIntyre’s most notable accomplishments of large-scale site specific sculpture include Arboreal Passage at the Austin Nature and Science Center and Emergence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. He was awarded a grant from the Texas Biennial in 2009. His work has been featured in the Museum of Vordingborg, Denmark, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, and the People’s Gallery at Austin City Hall, among many others.

Much of his work has dealt with imagined species of plant and marine life. These works analyze taxonomy, the science of cataloguing species of life. McIntyre grew up steeped in the academic sciences, which greatly influenced the aesthetic perspective of his work.
