About the Artists
Laurel Coyle (STOP 25) Laurel Coyle is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Lockhart. She picked up her first camera, a 110 Instamatic, at age eight, and became fascinated by the possibilities of image making. She still has a box full of exposed film from her childhood that she is slowly processing. She continued photographing through middle and high school. Laurel has a history as a dressmaker and, at 24, purchased her first digital camera. Using an auto timer, she made self portraits while wearing the dresses she created and began to understand the inner workings of digital photography. The images created are not of a specific region but are anchored in experience, each image tied to a specific memory. Laurel believes that artistic expression begins with the heart and that art is the physical manifestation of our individual passion.
Sonya Eberhart (STOP 47) is a painter whose work explores the intersection of painting and quilt making to engage with themes of gender and the beauty of the everyday. Inspired by a longstanding familial tradition of these feminine arts, Eberhart enjoys questioning the idea of how a painting is made. She is in the process of receiving a BFA from Texas State University in both Studio Art and Communication Design. Her work has been shown at Lockhart Post Gallery, Jo’s Cafe, and selected as a Merit Winner in the 2024 Student Juried Exhibition at Texas State.
Ursula Rogers (STOP 26) is a photographer located in Central Texas. Her grandma’s home was constantly filled with raucous laughter from the tales told by family. Those memories connected generations in that tiny Texas home. Throughout the years as Rogers traveled around and forged her own, she realized the power of memory and story.
Rather than using words to weave stories together, she decided on a visual medium.
Jiya Shah (STOP 43) paints self-portraits and portraits of those closest to her. Her style leans towards realism. Shah’s top three mediums are gouache, oil paints, and ballpoint pen. Shah aims to experiment in her painting and layering process and to loosen her brushstrokes to bring more energy into the painting process. Shah’s goal as an artist is to explore more painting subjects in order to learn more about herself and her preferences and in doing so, finding herself in everything she loves.
