About Her Exhibition
Women & Their Work was proud to have welcomed Betye Saar and her work to Austin in 1996 for her solo exhibition, Personal Icons. In her work, Saar investigated spirituality in all of its forms. She reused and recontextualized spiritual icons and decorative patterns and asked the viewer what it meant to perceive and be perceived.

On Friday, June 21 at 5:00 p.m. Betye Saar gave a lecture about her work at Women & Their Work, and an opening reception was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There was also a special brunch with Betye Saar featuring entertainment by jazz vocalist Corlis Calvin at the Victory Grill on Saturday, June 22 from 10:30 am- 1 pm.
