Cross Pollination

Fri Nov 7, 1986 - Fri Dec 5, 1986

“Cross Pollination” was a twenty poster exhibition at the Dougherty Arts Center, November 7 to December 5. These works were an exuberant look at the collective experience of women explored from many different ethnic perspectives.

Through figurative, narrative, and abstract images, “Cross Pollination” conveyed a sensitive understanding of the commonalities shared by all women as well as the culturally diverse attitudes held by the artists and their communities.

This exhibition was commissioned by The Women’s Building, a public center in Los Angeles showcasing the artistic achievements of women. The poster medium was specifically chosen because posters are produced in multiple, could be displayed more publicly, and could, therefore, be seen by many more people than one-of-a-kind artwork.
