Latin America: Women as Artists and Artisans

Latin America: Women as Artists and Artisans
Tue Apr 5, 1983 - Sat Apr 30, 1983

Women & Their Work and the Benson Latin American Collection presented “Latin America: Women as Artists & Artisans,” an exhibit compiled by Betty LaDuke of Southern Oregon State College.

“Latin America: Women as Artists & Artisans” featured prints, photographs and needlework from Chile, Peru, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the San Blas Islands. The Collection was gathered by LaDuke in three recent trips to Latin America, where she studied specific forms of contemporary art and crafts directly related to women’s lives, their society, and the process of social change. The exhibition provided a rare opportunity to see Chilean embroidery, as well as many other forms of folk art and needlework from Latin America.
