The Visceral Intellect

The Visceral Intellect
Thu Nov 20, 1997 - Wed Dec 24, 1997

This exhibition featured the work of 19 artists selected by Sue Graze, then Senior Curator at The Miami Art Museum. This group exhibition presented works on paper, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and photography. Many of the selected works explored images of the body. Describing the work, curator Sue Graze remarked; “the content of the work in the exhibition is intellectual, but it is also alive visually and viscerally”.

“The Visceral Intellect” explored the synthesis of mind and body, of the sensual and the intellectual, of the tactile and cerebral through the perspective of 19 women artists of diverse backgrounds.

The selected artists included: Claire Ankeman, Tre Arenz, Lisa Tamiris Becker, Kate Budd, Benita Carr, Susan Davidoff, Celia Eberle, Virginia Fleck, Dianne Greene, Kathleen Holmes, Leticia Huerta, Marilyn Jolly, Janet Kastner, Rosemary Meza, Sally Packard, Beverly Penn, Monica Pierce, Venja Waldis, and Sydney Yeager.
